About this piece
A lot of 3 vintage black and white snapshot photographs from the 1940s, unidentified: a three-generation family group outside a clapboard house, two women seated by a brick building, and a young woman and a boy in swimsuits at a beach. Sizes run from about 4.7 x 2.9 in. to 6 x 4 in. All show light wear and handling consistent with age, with ink or pencil notes on two of the backs.
• Family group of about ten, from grandparents down to a small boy in a romper, posed on the lawn before a clapboard house under shade trees. Printed decorative border with the word Elko worked into the corners. On the back, an ink note signed Helen: "I have no idea when this was taken. Now I try & date pictures. Have a good 80th Birthday party & we will be there in spirit." About 5.1 x 3.4 in.
• Two smiling women seated on a concrete ledge beside a brick building with a basement window and stone steps. "1944" in pen on the back, Velox paper. About 4.7 x 2.9 in.
• A young woman and a boy in swimsuits sitting in shallow water at a sandy beach, a stucco building with arched windows behind them. Pencil mark on the back. About 6 x 4 in.
No names of sitters or places are given on any of the three. A nice small group of 1940s everyday life for collectors of vernacular snapshots, family photos and beach and swimsuit images.
