About this piece

Orientation in Religious Education, edited by Philip Henry Lotz. Abingdon Press, New York and Nashville, copyright 1950 (MCML) by Pierce and Smith; printed and bound by the Parthenon Press, Nashville. Maroon cloth hardcover in the original orange-and-maroon dust jacket. Used, fair to good: the jacket is heavily chipped and torn with losses at the spine ends and top of the back panel; the book itself is sound, with a previous owner's ink name and course notes (Mercer University) on the front endpaper and a handwritten note on the title page.

A comprehensive survey by forty-six specialists of the accomplishments, objectives, principles and methods of mid-century religious education: curriculum, worship, the creative arts, audio-visual methods, radio and television, the Sunday, vacation and weekday church school, youth work, camps, church and state, and religious education in colleges and abroad. Contributors include Lewis J. Sherrill, Luther A. Weigle, Harrison S. Elliott, Paul H. Vieth, C. A. Bowen and Ross Snyder.

A useful historical reference for Christian educators, seminary libraries and anyone studying the Sunday school movement.
