About this piece

Linen postcard of The Church of the Redeemer, Biloxi, Mississippi, a "Colourpicture" Publication purchased by the Sadler News Company of Gulfport, Mississippi. Front shows the shingled red church with its stained glass windows and open belfry tower, framed by a large live oak hung with Spanish moss and flower beds along the walk. Card number 121 on the front caption. Standard 3.5 x 5.5 in, unposted. Good vintage condition with light corner and edge wear, toning to the back, and a small pencil notation at the top right of the back.

Back caption reads: "In this Church, Jefferson Davis, former President of The Confederate States, attended service. Hung over the pew he occupied still hangs the flag of The Confederate States in his memory." Also printed: "The Biloxi Chamber of Commerce," "Pur. by The Sadler News Company, Gulfport, Mississippi," "A Colourpicture Publication, Cambridge, Mass., U.S.A.," stock number 15,530, and a "Place One Cent Stamp Here" box.
