About this piece
Pair of Victorian chromolithograph cards that came together and carry the same family name. Both are inscribed in pencil on the back to members of the Hahn family, dated 1886 and 1890. Used condition with toning, foxing and a few creases; details below.
• Christmas card, about 4.9 x 5.7 inches: a rosy-cheeked winged cherub looking up from the clouds in a round frame, with "A bright and happy Christmas" in ornate lettering. Back inscribed "James Albert Hahn" with "1890" and "Jan 17 1890." Stain spot and foxing on the back, a light crease at the lower left corner.
• Reward of merit card, about 7.5 x 5.5 inches: two boys in Victorian clothes chasing a rabbit past a wooden fence. Back inscribed "Albert Hahn / For 60 days attendance / March 2, 1886," plus some childish pencil scribbles. Crease and small split running up from the bottom edge, foxing and toning.
A nice small grouping for Victorian scrap and school ephemera collectors, and for anyone researching the Hahn name.
