About this piece
Antique undivided-back postcard postmarked September 10, 1907, with a blue monotone art scene of a Dutch boy in wooden shoes smoking a pipe, leaning on a post by the shore with a boat beyond, the picture set in tile-like panels and captioned "Just stop and think." Card number H-667 at lower left. About 3.6 x 5.7 inches. Condition: used, with corner wear, creases, and the front heavily written in ink as was usual for undivided-back cards.
The handwritten message on the front reads in part "...of last week what a time we had... went on to the fair and the folks thought I would come that day so I didn't surprise them. started to school today," with "write to me Maude Jones" at the top.
The back is addressed to Miss Virgie Nichols, Cowden, Ill., with a green 1 cent Franklin stamp and a circular postmark reading "...OMET ILL.," which appears to be Mahomet, Illinois.
A charming early Illinois postal item for collectors of Dutch children cards, undivided-back era postcards and Illinois family history.
