About this piece

Original Athens Banner-Herald newspaper from Athens, Georgia, Monday, July 21, 1969 (Vol. 138, No. 142), reporting the Apollo 11 moonwalk. The banner across the top quotes Neil Armstrong's "That's One Small Step for Man, Giant Leap for Mankind" over the headline "It Was Unforgettable!", with "Man's Greatest Adventure," "1st Walk On Moon Surface" and "How Proud We Are—President." The masthead reads 14 Pages, Ten Cents. Folded size about 15.5 x 11.7 in. Condition: center fold, uniform toning, light edge wear and a few small nicks at the lower left, with no tape or missing pieces seen.

Below the fold are "Ghostlike Moon Walkers Mark a Dawn in History" and "Only Place: Humans and Peace."

This is the hometown paper's own coverage of the landing, a Georgia alternative to the big-city editions.
